Privacy

• Your account: your first and last name, email address, and a password. We store only a scrambled (hashed) version of your password, so we can't see it.
• What you write: if you're picked, the message you write, plus the name and “where you are right now” you choose to add. Both are optional.
• How you use the list: which messages you sent a heart to, and your settings, like pausing or just receiving messages.
• Basic technical logs our hosting providers keep to run the site securely, like IP addresses and error reports.

We don't run ads, and we don't use tracking cookies. The only thing the site stores in your browser is what keeps you signed in.

• Everyone on the list sees a message once it goes out, signed only with the name and place the writer chose. If you leave the name blank, it's signed “Someone.”
• The person who reviews messages sees who wrote each one and their email address, so they can send it back with a note or reach out if someone seems to be struggling.
• The writer sees how many hearts their message received the next day. No one sees who sent one.
• No one else. Other members never see your email address or whether you're on the list.

Only to run Sonderlist: to pick someone at random, send messages out, email you when you have the mic or when someone else does, keep the list safe, and fix things when they break. We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for anyone else's marketing.

A few companies help us run Sonderlist and handle your information on our behalf:

• Supabase stores the list, accounts, and messages.
• Vercel hosts the website.
• Resend sends our emails.

Your information is stored in the United States. We may also share information if the law requires it, or if we believe someone's safety is at serious risk.

We keep your account for as long as you're on the list. Messages that went out stay in the archive so new members can read them. Messages that were never sent are kept only as long as we need them to run and protect the list.

• Pause your membership or choose to just receive messages, any time, from Settings.
• Ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and your messages. Email hello@thesonderlist.com and we'll take care of it.

Sonderlist is for people 18 and older. If we learn someone under 18 has joined, we'll remove their account.

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For meaningful changes, we'll email everyone on the list first. See also our terms.
